About the role
Due to continued growth and changing work patterns in our thriving small animal first opinion, RCVS General Practice accredited, practice we are looking for a motivated vet to join our enthusiastic team which delivers a high standard of care in beautiful North Somerset.
We have excellent facilities and benefit from being next to the Langford Vets Referral Hospital, ensuring excellent access for our clients. The first opinion and referral services collaborate as a team for complete patient support, ensuring the highest standard of patient care. Langford Vets is known for providing excellent pet care in an environment dedicated to learning.
The successful applicant will need to have a good level of consulting and surgical confidence in all aspects of first opinion case management. As an RCVS registered training practice and a University of Bristol teaching practice we work to support and develop student vets and nurses. A significant part of the role involves supervising students working in the clinic, supporting the learning of all aspects of first opinion skills.
The available post is up to full time of 37.5 hours a week with up to 1 in 5 Saturdays, we have multiple working patterns within Langford Vets and believe in the value of flexible working.

We offer a competitive basic salary from £45,000 - £55,000 depending on experience.

Job Title: Veterinary Surgeon in Small Animal First Opinion Practice
Reports To: Clinical Lead
Job Purpose:
- To provide excellent primary surgical and medical service for patients
- To provide excellent customer care.
- To provide excellent clinical teaching to undergraduate students
Principal Accountabilities (the list is not exhaustive but includes the main tasks):
- To contribute towards the continuing growth of the practice by providing excellent customer and patient care
- To proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement. Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our clients, employees and students
- To perform duties by supervising of students undertaking the tasks below as and when appropriate
- To perform medical and surgical diagnoses, treatments and procedures to the standards expected by the RCVS
- To record all case records within the appropriate timescale
- To ensure that client consent is gained as necessary and that they are aware of and kept up to date with treatment costs
- To ensure that laboratory findings are reported to clients
- To assess and examine inpatients on a daily basis, and to keep all records up to date and update all relevant staff of any changes
- To follow all practice protocols and policies
- To ensure telephone queries are answered
- To ensure that clients are informed of test results and if any further actions or costs are likely
- To contribute to the assessment and delivery of appraisals of students on their practical rotation within the practice
- To comply with the debt protocol
- To ensure that Veterinary Nurses are supervised to the required level
- To ensure the correct pricing and charging of all procedures
- Ensure that animals are properly restrained and use chemical restraint where necessary
- To provide formal and informal tuition of veterinary and nurse students and to assist with practical assessment of the students.
