Langford Vets, University of Bristol is seeking to recruit a Resident in veterinary anaesthesia to work within our team offering referral anaesthesia services and undergraduate teaching. You will be based primarily in the Small Animal Referral Hospital with some time spent in the Translational Biomedical Research Centre, Large Animal Practice, and Bristol Zoo. Visits and externships to equine hospitals with whom we have reciprocal agreements are scheduled to meet the requirements of the training programme.
We are the largest referral centre in the south-west of England and consequently have a busy and varied caseload of around 3,500 small animal anaesthetics a year. The clinical team is friendly, mutually supportive, and recognises the contributions of each discipline to the overall success of patient care. Along with clinical anaesthesia we provide an acute and chronic pain service and support the intensive care unit in the management cases which require invasive or non-invasive ventilation. The hospital is equipped to a very high standard, and we have dedicated anaesthesia ultrasound and endoscopy units.
The department currently comprises 6 senior anaesthetists, 4 residents enrolled in an ECVAA training program and 5 anaesthesia nurses. The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to the on-call rota and participate in small group and individual under- and post-graduate student teaching on clinics.
The position would suit a Veterinary Surgeon wanting to pursue a specialist career, who has spent a minimum of 2 years in practice including a rotating internship. Annual leave entitlement is 33 days (includes bank holidays) and approximately 20% of time will be devoted to scholarly activity on a rota, including 10 days a year available for CPD. The position is tenable for 36 months and starts in October 2025 attracting a salary of £36,000.
The Langford campus is situated 10 miles south of Bristol in a lush valley on the edge of the Mendip hills. Bristol and its environs are arguably the best place to live in the UK, with a vibrant local food scene, a huge range of cultural attractions and amazing countryside with easy access to hills, ancient woodlands, rivers and the beautiful beaches of the South West and Wales.
