Our vets are experienced in all aspects of breeding and foaling advice for your mare. We offer fixed-price breeding packages as well as per visit/item invoicing.
Before any mare or stallion is used for breeding they must be screened to certify that they are free from breeding related infectious diseases.
After covering we scan your mare to ensure that she has ovulated and then carry out a first pregnancy scan at 15 to 18 days after ovulation. If in foal, we carry out a second pregnancy scan at 25 to 28 days after ovulation to confirm that only one pregnancy is present.
Most of these examinations can be carried out at home in the stable and may involve sedation if no stocks or similar safe restraint is present. Equally visits to the practice will utilise our stocks reducing sedation and visit fees. Breeding using frozen semen requires precise timing of insemination. In these cases, bringing the mare to the practice over the week at key stages of her oestrus period ensures the most opportune timing.
