What is Epilepsy Clinic?

The Epilepsy Clinic is an new addition to our established neurology and neurosurgery service, one of the largest in the UK.

We offer a simple, streamlined referral process through our website where routine seizure cases can be referred as one of three new options:

Standard

Most suitable for new epileptics  Standard

Comprehensive in-person consultation and investigations into causes of seizures, with follow-up advice provided by email to primary care practice if required.

Enhanced

Most suitable for difficult epileptics or drug-resistant epileptics; but open to all cases including new epileptics  Enhanced

Comprehensive in-person consultation and investigations into causes of seizures, with a pre-arranged 3-month follow-up recheck and 6-month follow-up recheck teleconsultation; access to our private information hub.

Enhanced with Initial Teleconsultation

Suitable for epileptics who have already seen us historically or are currently being managed by another neurologist and have been referred from them directly (i.e. a tertiary referral).  Enhanced with Initial Teleconsultation

Comprehensive consultation +/- repeat investigations, with a pre-arranged 3-month follow-up recheck and 6-month follow-up recheck teleconsultation; access to our private information hub

All cases

Investigations will be discussed on a case by case basis and up to tier 3 confidence (MRI and EEG). This will require all animals to have haematology, biochemistry and bile-acid stimulation tests performed prior to referral.

Owners will have ongoing access to specific online epilepsy resources.

Collaborative Care

We maintain ongoing communication between Langford Vets, pet owners, and the referring vets for up to six months, ensuring everyone is informed and involved in the treatment process.

Follow-up teleconsultations scheduled for enhanced cases at three and six months, to review seizure diaries, recommend adjustments to medications as needed, review expectations and animal quality of life.
