As a Renal Clinic Feline Research Nurse, you will work closely with a PhD student to deliver the Feline Kidney Health Initiative—a specialised clinic supporting cats diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. This is a unique opportunity to combine hands-on clinical nursing with meaningful research that has real impact.
This role is part time; 8 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality care for feline patients during clinical visits

Assist with handling, clinical procedures, sampling, and data collection

Support the day-to-day running and organisation of the clinic

Act as a primary point of contact for cat owners, helping with scheduling and logistical queries

About You

Qualified veterinary nurse (or equivalent) with a strong interest in feline care

Confident in handling cats, including those with medical needs

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Job Title: Renal Clinic Feline Research Nurse
Reports To: Natalie Finch and Eleri Counsell
Job Purpose: The Feline Research Nurse will work alongside a PhD student to run the Feline Kidney Health Initiative, a clinic for cats with chronic kidney disease. They will be actively involved in caring for the cats during their clinical visits, assisting with handling, sampling and data collection. The nurse will also be a key point of contact for owners assisting with logistical queries and clinic organisation.
Principal Accountabilities:-
The successful candidate will support the Feline Kidney Health Initiative and all its associated research activities. During clinic days the nurse will assist with organising and performing diagnostic procedures including cognitive assessments, blood sampling and non-invasive blood pressure measurements. The nurse will work to support owners in their completion of qualitative research questionnaires as well as take an active role in the logistics of the clinic including replying to owner queries and booking appointments.

Handling and restraining cats for diagnostic procedures

Assisting with recording and maintaining clinical records and research data

Processing and archiving samples in the feline renal research biobank

Maintaining and calibrating equipment for the renal clinic such as Doppler blood pressure measurement device, ISTAT, cognitive testing equipment

Ordering consumables for the research clinic

Cleaning of kennels used by cats visiting the renal clinic

Supporting Zoetis Feline Scholar on home visits for behavioural tests

There will be some autonomy to prioritise own daily/weekly workload. Ensure key daily and weekly tasks are completed in a timely manner whilst allowing time to respond to urgent requests. Planning resource requirements in advance e.g., ensuring availability of diagnostic procedures and consultation rooms.
