We are delighted to announce that, after a lot of very hard work gathering credentials and sitting the certifying exam, Anaesthesia Nurse Holly has qualified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anesthesia and Analgesia!
Congratulations to Holly on this incredible achievement! She now joins a group of only 19 other nurses in the UK to hold this prestigious qualification.

"I’m thrilled to share that I have achieved VTS (Anesthesia and Analgesia) status, a qualification overseen by the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Anesthesia and Analgesia (AVTAA). This accomplishment has been a challenging yet incredibly rewarding journey.
To become a veterinary technician specialist, candidates must accumulate over 4 years of experience in anaesthesia, along with ongoing continuing education. The process also includes submitting 60 detailed case logs and 4 comprehensive case reports that demonstrate proficiency in advanced nursing skills. After this, candidates face two rigorous exams—one assessing clinical knowledge and the other testing clinical reasoning.
The road to VTS status has been demanding, especially balancing it with my clinical responsibilities, but the experience has been invaluable. It has provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge, allowing me to offer more advanced and confident anaesthesia care to our patients.
