Testing Antibody Levels in Cria's

Failure of Passive Transfer

We provide same day results, either on farm or from sample submission, to our practice for failure of passive transfer in both camelids and cattle.

Failure of passive transfer occurs when neonates (cria) fail to take in adequate colostrum of a good quality to enable adequate antibody levels to fight infection. These animals fail to thrive and it can result in death.

Same Day IgG Results - External Submissions

We can provide a same day, quantified IgG result, if blood samples are dropped to Langford Farm Animal Practice before 3pm, by either practice staff or the clients themselves.

Please phone ahead to the practice on: 1934 852650 if you wish to drop a sample for a same-day result.

We are also happy to accept samples by post / courier and will report results the same day we receive them.

Complete on our online form and print off to submit with the sample.

  • Samples need to be 2ml of whole blood/serum or EDTA.
  • It is best that tests are done between 24 and 48 hours after birth but can be run up to 7 days of age.

We offer a free advice service to vets, therefore if you would like a discussion before submission, please phone us on 01934 852650 and we will arrange for one of our vets to phone you back.
