About you

You’re a Veterinary Surgeon with at least two years of clinical experience and a growing interest in animal behaviour. You’re thoughtful, communicative, and motivated to develop your skills.

You’ll work at the intersection of behaviour and welfare, supporting complex cases that require time, empathy, and careful clinical decision-making. Working alongside a Behaviour Clinician and Behaviour Nurse, you’ll contribute to an expanding service within a busy referral setting.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting behaviour consultations from initial assessment through to long-term case management
  • Contributing to treatment planning, including the use of behavioural and psychoactive medications
  • Communicating clearly with clients and referring vets through high-quality reports
  • Taking part in collaborative case discussions across behaviour, pain management, and rehabilitation teams
  • Supporting clinical teaching for veterinary nursing students
  • Providing continuity of care when colleagues are away

Reports To: Rehabilitation Clinical Lead

Job Purpose

  • To support the behaviour team to develop behaviour medicine services within the Small Animal Referral Hospital.
  • To provide excellent care for patients.
  • To provide excellent customer care.
  • To communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians and nurses working within other services to ensure cases are managed and efficiently.
  • To contribute to clinical teaching of undergraduate students.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To provide behaviour medicine services for the Small Animal Referral Hospital, ensuring all cases are accepted and treated appropriately.
  • To work with multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent care for all patients.
  • To ensure the continuing growth of the referral caseload by providing excellent customer and patient care
  • To support growth of the service through involvement in marketing initiatives undertaken by Langford Vets.
  • To undertake relevant training as requested in order to expand services offered within Langford Vets.
  • To perform diagnoses, treatments and behaviour training of patients to the standards expected by the RCVS for a referral teaching hospital.
  • To record all case records accurately.
  • To ensure that client consent is gained as necessary and that they are aware of and kept up to date with treatment costs.
  • To ensure that laboratory findings are reported to clients.
  • To assess in patients as necessary to provide anxiolysis and behaviour management advice, record treatment and update all relevant staff of any changes.
  • To follow all Langford Vets protocols and policies.
  • To ensure telephone queries are answered in a timely manner.
  • To have Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing students assigned to you on their clinical rotations and on EMS as required.
  • To contribute to the assessment and delivery of appraisals of students on their practical rotation when applicable.
  • To ensure that Veterinary Nurses are supervised to the required level.
  • To ensure the correct pricing and charging of all consultations and procedures.
  • Responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, reporting accidents, near misses and hazards and adhering to health and safety requirements and policies as required by the business/their line manager.
  • Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement.  Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our, clients, employees, and students.
  • To perform administrative tasks as are required by the hospital manager and the CEO.
  • To undertake any reasonable requests made by the service clinical leads.
