Langford Vets is excited to offer a Junior Clinician position in Anaesthesia at our state-of-the-art Small Animal Referral Hospital.

As a Junior Clinician, you will work as part of the Anaesthesia department, gaining hands-on experience and training in all aspects of small animal surgical care. You’ll be joining a dynamic and supportive team of experts, including six Senior Anaesthetists, three residents, five anaesthesia nurses  and a broad range of other specialists across our hospital.

What You'll Do:

  • Work as part of the anaesthesia department, anaesthetising individual cases and contributing to peri-anaesthetic and critical care of inpatients.
  • Receive structured training and mentorship from experienced specialists
  • Participate in the emergency anaesthesia out-of-hours rota (currently 1 in 4)
  • Contribute to clinical teaching and collaborative research initiatives

This position is ideal for someone seeking further development with the potential to progress into a residency position upon successful completion of the programme.

Job Title: Junior Clinician in Anaesthesia
Reports To: Anaesthesia Clinical Lead
Job Purpose
  • To support the anaesthesia caseload within the Small Animal Referral Hospital.
  • To provide excellent care for patients.
  • To communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians and nurses working within other services to ensure cases are managed efficiently.
  • To provide clinical teaching to undergraduate students as and if required.
Principal Accountabilities:
  • To provide anaesthesia services for the Small Animal Referral Hospital, ensuring all cases are handled efficiently and with excellent clinical care.
  • To work with multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent care for all patients.
  • To ensure the continuing growth of the referral caseload by facilitating case management in the hospital.
  • To perform anaesthesia and related procedures to the standards expected by the RCVS for a referral teaching hospital.
  • To ensure all case records are accurate.
  • To assess and examine patients prior to anaesthesia and update clinicians of any significant changes.
  • During care of anaesthesia cases to keep supervising clinicians informed of significant changes in the cases status.
  • To follow all Langford Vets protocols and policies.
  • To have students assigned to you on their clinical rotations as required.
  • To contribute to the assessment and delivery of appraisals of students on their practical rotation when applicable.
  • To ensure the correct pricing and charging of all procedures.
  • To participate in an out of hours rota no more than 1:4, to provide anaesthesia and critical care support to the Small Animal Hospital out of hours and at weekends.
  • To perform administrative tasks as required by the hospital director or CEO.
  • To undertake any reasonable requests made by the service clinical lead.
  • To contribute to the delivery of continuing professional development (CPD) through the Langford Academy when requested.
