Langford Vets is excited to offer an exciting opportunity to become our Hospital Animal Care Assistant (part-time).

We are looking for a dynamic and hard-working Animal Care Assistant to join our team at the Small Animal Referral Hospital.

This part-time role (18hours per week, Monday-Friday) offers the opportunity to work within a busy hospital setting. We are open to discussing how these hours will work for the successful candidate and the hospital.

You will primarily support the consulting rooms within the Small Animal Hospital, working to ensure they are maintained to a high level of cleanliness and infection control, and to ensure that stock levels are well- managed for the clinical demand. This role will also work to support other areas of the hospital as required.

This role gives the successful candidate an opportunity to gain an insight into the hospital whilst having defined responsibilities unique to this role.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Show initiative and the ability to manage and plan their own workload,
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Be flexible, adaptable. And comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach

In this role you may be involved with the teaching of Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing undergraduates on clinical rotations.

Job purpose

Job Purpose:

To assist the veterinary and support staff of the Small Animal Hospital in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout all clinical areas. To assist clinicians and nursing staff with the provision of in-patient care, throughout all stages of the patient’s treatment. To assist with the setting up and maintenance of rooms and equipment. There is also a requirement for a flexible working pattern.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Maintain the hospital consulting rooms, to include cleaning, stocking, organising, and reporting any maintenance issues.  

  • To manage the clinical waste compounds, ensuring they are tagged and ready for collections and reporting any issues and concerns to the Nursing Manage and Operational team.  

  • To support with the workflow through our kennels area, to include processing washing, bowls, litter trays and other items, following our infection control SOP’s.  

  • Assist veterinary surgeons and nurses with clinical procedures and patient handling and restraint.  

  • Maintain a high level of asepsis throughout the hospital including wards, theatres, and prep rooms and to ensure all areas are adequately stocked with supplies and consumables.  

  • Assist the veterinary nurses with inpatient care including feeding, walking, and cleaning of hospitalised animals.  

  • Assist the veterinary nurses and clinicians within patient procedures to include a range of clinical areas and tasks.   

  • Maintaining accurate patient records with regards to all clinical notes, treatment, diagnoses, client communication and client /patient information 

  • Maintaining a good working relationship with all team members 

  • Communicating in an effective and pleasant manner with clients and colleagues  

  • Carry out all other reasonable duties as requested by the Assistant Nursing Manager 

  • Responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, reporting accidents, near misses and hazards and adhering to health and safety requirements and policies as required by the business/their line manager.
