An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time specialist or residency-trained clinician to join our orthopaedic team at Langford Vets.
About Langford Vets
Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital is located in the beautiful Somerset countryside, while being close to the vibrant city of Bristol. We are the largest referral centre in the South West, offering a truly multidisciplinary service, with the largest team of American, European, and RCVS Specialists in the region.
The Orthopaedic Team
Our orthopaedic team comprises six boarded specialists and six residents, supported by a dedicated team of surgical and theatre nurses.
The Role
You will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality clinical service in veterinary orthopaedic surgery. We treat a wide range of orthopaedic cases, from routine investigations to complex fracture repair, total hip replacement, and angular limb deformity correction. This role will allow you to further develop your surgical skills within a highly experienced and supportive team.
The role also involves delivering teaching and practical instruction to undergraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students, as well as mentoring clinical training scholars at both junior and senior levels.
Requirements
A veterinary qualification recognised by the RCVS, permitting you to practise veterinary medicine in the UK.
Board-certified (or board-eligible) in ECVS or ACVS, or residency-trained and close to diploma completion.
Strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, and collaborative working.

- £80-110k per annum depending on experience

Job purpose
Job Title: Clinician in Small Animal Orthopaedics
Reports To: Clinical Leads Ortho
Job Purpose:

To support the orthopaedic service to develop surgical services within the Small Animal Referral Hospital.

To provide excellent care for patients.

To provide excellent customer care.

To communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians and nurses working within other services to ensure cases are managed and efficiently.

To provide clinical teaching to undergraduate students and clinical training scholars as and if required
Principal Accountabilities:
-
To provide orthopaedic surgical services for the Small Animal Referral Hospital, ensuring all cases are accepted promptly and treated appropriately

To work with multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent for all patients.

To ensure the continuing growth of the referral caseload by providing excellent customer and patient care

To support growth of the service through involvement in marketing initiatives undertaken by Langford Vets

To undertake relevant training as requested in order to expand services offered within Langford Vets

To perform diagnoses, treatments and procedures to the standards expected by the RCVS for a referral teaching hospital

To record all case records accurately

To ensure that client consent is gained as necessary and that they are aware of and kept up to date with treatment costs

To ensure that laboratory findings are reported to clients

To assess and examine in patients on a daily basis, and to keep all records up to date and update all relevant staff of any changes

To follow all Langford Vets protocols and policies

To ensure telephone queries are answered in a timely manner

To have students assigned to you on their clinical rotations and on EMS as required and as necessary

To contribute to the assessment and delivery of appraisals of students on their practical rotation when applicable

To ensure that Veterinary Nurses are supervised to the required level

To ensure the correct pricing and charging of all procedures

To be available when requested on the rota (minimum 1 in 4) to provide cover for the relief of pain and suffering in animals in receiving and treating emergency cases and to support residents

To take part in provision of CPD for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses

To perform administrative tasks as are required by the hospital manager and the CEO

To undertake any reasonable requests by the service clinical leads
