About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and organised RVN to work full time as part of our billing team in the Small Animal Hospital.

The successful candidate will work with our Billing Officers and Clinical Operations Coordinator to ensure that client invoices accurately reflect the patient journey and are sent to our clients in a timely fashion. This involves checking hospital sheets and other documentation as well as communicating with hospital clinicians when necessary to ensure that invoices are accurate and up to date both throughout and after a patient stay.

The role requires someone who can work well individually and as part of a team as well as good communication skills and the ability to prioritise and organise their workload.

Experience of working as an RVN in a referral setting is desirable but not an essential criteria for the role.

Job Title: Clinical Billing Officer 
Reports to: Clinical Operations Coordinator

Job purpose:
The post holder will be expected to apply and check all bills are charged accurately and efficiently to patient records and sent out within a timely manner to clients. This will involve checking hospital sheets and other patient documentation, as well as communicating with hospital clinicians and nurses when necessary, to ensure that invoices are accurate and up to date both throughout and after a patient stay. 

The role holder will work with our Billing Officers, supporting them with clinical queries and continuously striving to identify area in which the billing process can be refined to maximise efficiency. 

The role holder will work to ensure all patient records have accurate data, including cost centres, clinician names and visit dates. Where possible, all invoices must be complete and accurate ready for discharge times. As the role is ever evolving to ensure we are billing in the most efficient ways, a good attitude towards continuous improvement and role development is required. 

The post holder must ensure excellent customer service is provided and all client communication is dealt with promptly and politely keeping in line with the Langford Vets ethos. 

Principle Accountabilities: The list is not exhaustive but includes the main tasks: 

  • To ensure all bills are charged accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with billing team members and nurses to ensure all charges are accurate, and charged efficiently so invoices are completed at discharge whenever possible
  • Support the billing officers with clinical queries related to the invoices.
  • Liaise with clinicians and nurses when needed to support with any billing queries
  • Check all patient records have accurate data e.g., cost centres, dates, clinician names.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communication
  • Understand and promote the company in a positive way, be aware of the organisations missions and aims
  • Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement.
  • Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our clients, employees, and students.

Excellent organisational skills

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a customer focused role

Good numerical and literacy skills

Previous experience in a veterinary environment

Advanced word processing skills, including the use of Microsoft Word

Education to a good GCSE level or equivalent to include English and preferably maths

Previous experience in a nursing/veterinary role

RVN or MRCVS

Team player

Excellent communication skills

Excellent customer interaction, both verbally and in person

Able to show empathy

Good attitude towards continuous improvement and role development

To have the flexibility to provide emergency cover on occasions.
