Guillaume received his Veterinary degree (DEDV) from the Veterinary School of Toulouse, France, in 1998. He subsequently trained and worked at the Veterinary School of Lyon, France and at North Carolina State University, USA. He is interested in all aspects of Soft Tissue Surgery, but his major clinical and research interests are in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. He also developed an interest for interventional radiology procedures and microsurgery. As a member of the Bristol Heart Institute, he sometimes works alongside human surgeons, which he describes as a privilege. He aims to bring the best of what he learns from them to help his veterinary patients.
He is a past member of the ECVS examination committee and ACVS research committee. He also chairs the AVSTS Research Cooperative , which promotes multi center veterinary clinical research.He is a past Associate Editor for the Journal of Small Animal Practice and is currently the European Associate Editor (Soft Tissue Surgery) for the journal Veterinary Surgery.
Guillaume has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications (articles, abstracts and book chapters) and reviews manuscripts for a number of journals. He also regularly lectures at national and international veterinary and medical meetings and congresses.
In 2020 Guillaume was awarded a fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for meritorious contributions to clinical practice.
