Submitting a sample from a non-EU country

We can accept mouth swabs and blood from EU and non-EU countries

Please follow the advice below when sending us samples from the Channel Islands and countries outside the EU

Please note:
There is no longer a requirement for a DEFRA import licence and signed declaration from countries in the EU or Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland

Submission from the Channel Islands

1.  Download and print the DEFRA import licence

2.  Download, print and complete the Inventory Form. This form also contains a check-list.

3.  The authorised person responsible for sending the samples must provide, on headed/official paper, a signed letter that includes the following:

“These products are not derived from animals known or suspected to be infected with a pathogen controlled by the Importation of Animal Pathogens Order 1980 (IAPO) or the Specified Animal Pathogens Order 2008 (SAPO) (as amended) or the animal health legislation of the exporting country.
These products do not originate from animals in a premises or region or zone of a country that is subject to official restrictions due to a notifiable disease* to which the animals are susceptible according to European or other national animal health regulations.

*Council Directive 82/894/EEC of 21 December 1982 (as amended) on the notification of animal diseases within the Community. “

4.  Attach ALL THREE documents to the OUTSIDE of the package containing your samples.

Submission from outside the EU

1.  Download and print the DEFRA import licence for: Afghanistan, Antigua, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, New Zealand, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UAE, USA and Vietnam.

2.  Download, print and complete the Inventory Form. This form also contains a check-list.

3.  The authorised person responsible for sending the samples must provide, on headed/official paper, a signed letter that includes the following declaration:

“These products are not derived from animals known or suspected to be infected with a pathogen which causes a notifiable disease to which the animals from which the products are derived are susceptible according to European Regulations* or the Animal Health Regulations of the exporting country. These products do not originate from animals in a premises or region or zone of a country that is subject to official restrictions due to a notifiable disease to which the animals are susceptible according to European or other National Animal Health Regulations.”

*Council Directive 82/894/EEC of 21 December 1982 (as amended) on the notification of animal diseases within the Community.

If samples are blood/tissue please include: “The animals from which these samples of blood/tissue are collected are not showing clinical signs of an infectious disease.“

4.  Attach ALL THREE documents to the OUTSIDE of the package containing your samples.
