New Year Arrival to Dermatology

Christine Prost

Christine Prost, DVM DECVD

Senior Teaching Fellow in Veterinary Dermatology

Dr. Christine Prost is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology and has professional interests in allergic skin diseases and feline dermatology.

Dr. Prost graduated from the Veterinary School of Lyon France in 1987 and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. In 1991, Dr. Prost was elected as a member of the GEDAC (French Association of Dermatology Specialists). She was named vice-president of the GEDAC in 2004. In addition, she has maintained membership in the European Society of Veterinary Dermatology since 1990 and the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology since 1992.

In 2005, she was named a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology.

Since 1991, Dr. Prost has worked in dermatology referral practices. She has been a speaker at numerous national and international veterinary symposiums and congresses. Her book, devoted to allergic skin diseases in dogs and cats, was published in 2000 and she has authored multiple research and review papers in national and international veterinary journals and book chapters.

Since January 2009, she has been working as a specialist at Tufts Vets in the U.S.A. and as a Clinical assistant professor for the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She is the director of the dermatology course at the Vet School at North Grafton.


New to Soft Tissue Surgery

Ivan Doran

Ivan Doran, BVSc Cert SAS DSAS (Soft Tissue) MRCVS

Soft Tissue Surgeon

Ivan graduated from the University of Bristol in 1997, after which he worked in mixed practice in Yorkshire, Hertfordshire and Australia. He obtained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2002 and returned to Bristol to undertake a small animal surgical residency in 2004.

Ivan became an RCVS Diplomate in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery in 2008 and an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery in 2010.

Ivan has been a committee member and meeting organiser for the Association of Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgeons. Since completing his residency, Ivan has worked as a soft tissue surgeon in Cheshire and in France, before joining Langford Veterinary Services in November 2011.

He takes pleasure in all elements of soft tissue surgery.

Paul Macfarlane

Paul Macfarlane, BVSc CertVA DipECVA MRCVS

Clinical Anaesthetist

After qualifying from Bristol in 2000 Paul worked in mixed, large and small animal practice until 2007 when he started a residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Liverpool. He gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2007 and the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in 2010. He enjoys all aspects of Veterinary Anaesthesia, even those that happen very early in the morning. His current research interests include the impact of CPAP on horses respiratory and cardiovascular systems, minimizing heat loss in small animal surgery and Clinical Audit in Veterinary Anaesthesia.

Away from work he enjoys reading, getting lost in peat bogs, and, the occasional game with the Clifton Chess Club. He has a very small cat of indeterminate age.

James Allsop

James Allsop BVSc MRCVS GPCert(FelP)

Clinical Associate in First Opinion Practice

James graduated from Liverpool and started his career in Newport South Wales where he worked for several years, eventually becoming a director of the practice in 2007. In 2011 he decided to take a position with the Small Animal Practice at Langford, where he hopes to be able to pass on to the students some of the skills that he has developed.

James has always had an interest in cats and completed the ESVPS Feline Practice Certificate in 2005 where he learnt a lot about the different illnesses that cats get and how best to look after them. He has always had cats as pets and really enjoy their company at home; he constantly finds their behaviour fascinating.

He currently also has a Cocker Spaniel who has shown him a lot about what a dog brings to a family.


Emergency Medicine

Dan Lewis

Dan Lewis, MRCVS

Clinician in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care

Dan graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1995. Following 4 years in mixed practice, where he gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia, he spent 8 years in a large hospital-based emergency clinic in Manchester. He has recently completed a 3 year Residency in Emergency & Critical Care at the Royal Veterinary College and is eligible to sit the Diploma examination for the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care.

Dan is interested in most aspects of Emergency & Critical Care work, but particularly in the treatment of septic patients and the stabilisation of acute Cardio-Pulmonary disorders.

 


Neurology Arrival

Tom Harcourt-Brown

Tom Harcourt-Brown, MA VetMB CertVDI DipECVN MRCVS

European Specialist in Veterinary Neurology

Tom graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2002 and spent a short time in general small animal practice on the outskirts of London before returning to his home town of Harrogate in Yorkshire to work in his parents' practice between 2003 and 2007. During this time he studied for his RCVS certificate in diagnostic imaging, which he was awarded in 2007. Following his employment in Harrogate, he took up a post as a senior clinical training scholar in neurology and neurosurgery at the Queens Veterinary School Hospital in the University of Cambridge. This three year post finished in 2010 and he subsequently worked as a locum neurologist at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket before successfully sitting the examination for the European College of Veterinary Neurologists in September 2010.

Tom's main areas of interest are in the management of syringomyelia in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and development of evidence based strategies for managing surgical conditions such as lumbosacral disease.

 


Small Animal Surgery

Guillaume Chanoit

Guillaume Chanoit, DVM Msc PhD DECVS DACVS MRCVS

Senior Lecturer, Soft Tissue Surgery School of Clinical Veterinary Sciences & Bristol Heart Institute, University of Bristol

Guillaume graduated form the Veterinary School of Toulouse; France where he attained his DVM degree (with Thesis) in 1998. Guillaume holds a Master of Sciences (MSc) degree in Microsurgery and completed a PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology. He obtained board certification from the European and American Colleges of Veterinary Surgery.

His clinical focus is soft tissue surgery with emphasis to thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. Guillaume has also developed a particular interest for the procedures done by interventional radiology (tracheal stents placement, and liver vascular abnormalities).

Among Guillaume´s major research interests (clinical and basic) are evaluation of surgical devices/procedures for cardiac and thoracic surgery and the study of protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury and oxidative stress. After several years on the faculty at the Veterinary School of Lyon, France and North Carolina State University, USA, Guillaume was appointed in November 2010 as Senior Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Bristol, School of Clinical Veterinary Sciences. He concurrently joined the Bristol Heart Institute where he is undertaking a significant portion of his research. Guillaume also serves as a reviewer for several international veterinary journals and as an Associate Editor for soft tissue surgery for the Journal of Small Animal Practice. He is also a member of the Small Animal examination committee of the European College of Veterinary Surgery.
