Soft tissue surgery (STS) incorporates surgery on many different body systems, such as the gastro-intestinal tract, urogenital system, skin, cardio-respiratory system etc.
We are therefore dependent on support from colleagues in internal medicine, anaesthesia, dermatology and diagnostic imaging to give the best possible care to our patients.
LVS is fully staffed with RCVS and European Specialists in all these disciplines, and so all cases referred benefit from this multi-disciplinary approach.
Procedures and types of cases seen include:
- Laser procedure for the treatment of ectopic ureters
- Interventional radiology
- Artificial urethral sphincter occlusion
- Total ear canal ablation (TECA)
- Laparoscopy and thoracotomy
- Upper airway surgery
- Chronic wound management including skin grafts and flaps
We are well equipped to deal with cases that require prolonged hospitalisation because of the facilities we have on-site, and so we welcome in particular referrals for chronic non-healing wounds or wound infections.
Our intensive care unit also means we are well placed to deal with trauma cases, or cases with respiratory problems (such as laryngeal paralysis, brachycephalic airway obstruction, thoracic masses etc).
