Skin Biopsies

Methods of investigation for skin disease

 

Skin biopsies are commonly used in investigating skin diseases. samples are taken using a punch biopsy tool or by surgical excision with the animal under sedation and/or local anaesthetic. If the lesions involve the face or feet, general anaesthesia will be required. The skin samples are investigated using histopathology and special staining, microbial culture, PCR or immunostaining.
