Post-mortem Services

post-mortem services

The Post-mortem Service previously provided by AHVLA is now managed by Langford Veterinary Services and encompasses both Companion Animal and Farm Animal PMs. The service includes:

• Investigation of carcases
• Disposal of carcases
• Incineration and return of ashes (small animals)
• Pathological reporting.

Delivery of carcases (all species): All PM submissions must be accepted by telephone (or other contact) prior to them being delivered for PME.

Companion Animal Postmortem: Our pathologist team includes: Harriet Brooks Brownlie, Debra Fews and Ross Harley. The duty pathologist should be contacted for postmortem examination requests (including cats, dogs, equids, lagomorphs and rodents). Carcases submitted on a Friday must be received by 3pm, otherwise they may not be examined until the following working day (Monday).

Farm Animal Postmortem: Our pathologist team includes: Mick Millar and Aiden Foster. Farmed livestock (including alpacas, cattle, deer, game birds, goats, llamas, pigs, poultry, rabbits, sheep and water buffalo) may be submitted for postmortem examination subject to agreement between the referring vet and the duty pathologist. For APHA cases, click here for a map detailing our catchment area.

Submit cases: Submission forms can be downloaded from the relevant sections here, please return by email or fax 0117 928 9613.
