This year's University of Bristol Feline Elective ran for 3 weeks in Langford Veterinary Services’ Feline Centre. The six final year veterinary students all spent time in the Feline Centre, attended a variety of seminars with guest speakers and worked on an evidence-based medicine project looking at topics such as glargine use in cats and dietary management of idiopathic feline lower urinary tract disease.
The students also visited a large Cats Protection feline shelter to learn about shelter medicine. It was a great experience for both students and clinicians. International Cat Care kindly sponsored part of the Feline Elective Prize, a year’s membership to ISFM, their veterinary division, which was won by Charlie Bridges, who also received the BSAVA Manual of Feline Practice; a foundation manual. A runner up prize, kindly donated by Dechra, of a Littman stethoscope, was awarded to Sam Butler. All students also received superb iCatCare goody bags!
