Internal Medicine Team

Supervisors

Cases are supervised by Domingo Casamian, Lucie Goodwin, Angie Hibbert, and Dr Séverine Tasker, all working with our Senior Clinical Training Scholars. Sheena Warman has just returned from maternity leave; congratulations on the birth of a second daughter.

Adding to the team, Professor Ed Hall , who is also Deputy Head of School, is available for consultation and sees some GI referrals and cases requiring endoscopy. Professor Tim Gruffydd-Jones is available for feline medicine advice but does not currently see cases. Patients with medical neurological problems are seen by Tom Harcourt-Brown, a European Neurology Diplomate, in conjunction with the medicine team.

Residents

The Medicine Team is supported by six Senior Clinical Training Scholars (a.k.a. Residents): Christina Maunder, Lara Boland, Karen Crawford, Catherine Bovens, Paul Higgs, and Natalie Finch. Our Residents are highly motivated and experienced small animal clinicians who have already spent time in practice before joining us. As part of their training, they rotate through different disciplines within medicine and also undergo some additional, external training in oncology and cardiology. Many already have postgraduate qualifications, and they are all studying towards the Dip-ECVIM whilst working under the supervision of the Specialist academic staff.

The Team has a wide range of complementary expertise and see all types of medical cases including endocrinology, gastroenterology, haematology, medical neurology, oncology, cardiorespiratory disease and more complex infectious and immune-mediated conditions.

Our staff all hold Diplomas or Certificates in Internal Medicine; indeed most hold the European or American Diploma in Veterinary Internal Medicine (Dip-ECVIM/Dip-ACVIM).

The Feline Centre

The Medicine team contributes to the work of our dedicated Feline Centre , and Angie Hibbert, Dr Séverine Tasker and Professor Tim Gruffydd-Jones are all RCVS recognised specialists in Feline Medicine. Two of the clinical training scholars are funded by the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) and work closely with FAB Head Office. The FAB is a UK charity dedicated to veterinary excellence in feline medicine and to the care of cats. The Feline Cente staff have been heavily involved in compiling the huge amount of detailed and reliable information for cat owners and vets which is available on the FAB website (www.fabcats.org).

Nurses

An integral part of the Team are our Medicine Nurses, many of whom hold the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Medical Nursing. We take a team approach to case management and also work closely with our colleagues in other disciplines including dermatology, surgery, imaging, anaesthesia and clinical pathology to ensure that all patients receive the best possible, integrated, multidisciplinary, holistic care. We have 24 hour on-site veterinary and veterinary nursing cover to provide our patients with the best care, as well as a 24/7/365 emergency service for medicine referrals.
