Internal Medicine Team
Medical cases are seen by Kate Murphy, Sheena Warman, Andrea Harvey and Angie Hibbert, who all hold the European Diploma in Veterinary Internal Medicine (Dip-ECVIM). In addition, Professors Hall and Gruffydd-Jones are available for consultation although they do not currently see cases.
The Medicine Team is supported by 4 Senior Clinical Training Scholars (a.k.a. Residents): Domingo Casamian, Natasha Hetzel, Rachel Korman and Christina Maunder. Our Residents are highly motivated and experienced small animal clinicians who have already spent time in practice before joining us. As part of their training, they rotate through different disciplines within medicine and also undergo some external training in neurology, oncology and cardiology. Many have postgraduate qualifications, and they are all studying towards the Dip ECVIM whilst working under the supervision of the Specialist academic staff.
Another integral part of the Team are our Medicine Nurses, many of whom hold the Diploma in Advanced Medical Nursing.
The Team has a wide range of complementary expertise and all the vets see clinical cases. General medical cases include endocrinology, gastroenterology, haematology, medical neurology, oncology, cardiorespiratory disease and more complex infectious and immune-mediated conditions causing pyrexia of unknown origin.
We work together as a team, and also work closely with our colleagues in other disciplines including dermatology, surgery, imaging, anaesthesia and clinical pathology to ensure that all patients receive the best possible, integrated and holistic care. We have 24 hour on-site veterinary cover to provide our patients with the best care, as well as a 24/7/365 emergency service.
One of the feline Specialists and two of the clinical training scholars are funded by the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) and work closely with FAB Head Office. The FAB is a UK charity dedicated to veterinary excellence in feline medicine and to the care of cats. The FAB funded vets are involved in compiling the huge amount of detailed and reliable information for owners and vets which is available on the FAB website (www.fabcats.org). They also work with FAB in developing initiatives such as the Cat Friendly Practice and Wellcat for Life programmes.
