How to submit samples for genetic testing

  1. Request swabs by completing this form OR use Q-tips
  2. Take mouth swabs as shown here

Get Adobe Reader

  1. Complete the submission form online or download and print it (Adobe Reader required)
  2. If you want your cat to go on the FAB negative register or some of the GCCF active registers YOU MUST USE THIS FORM and take your cat to your vet for them to confirm the cat's identity when they take the sample
  3. Send the submission form (or a print out of the online form) together with your samples to the address shown on the left
  4. Send payment (see here for genetic test prices) by cheque made payable to Langford Veterinary Services Ltd or pay online using a credit or debit card
  5. Your results will be sent by email 7 to 10 working days after we receive your samples

* Please note - the Blood type assay has not been fully validated in the Ragdoll and Turkish Angora breeds. In some animals results from DNA testing and conventional blood typing are not concordant.

Genetic tests have been validated for domestic cat breeds only. We cannot test wild cats.

Genetic tests price list

The Genetic tests price list can be downloaded here. Members of registered breed societies and clubs are eligible for a 20% discount on our list prices. You will need to supply a Breed Society Promotional Code to obtain the breed society discount prices, please ask your breed society for the Promotional Code. If they have not yet registered please ask them to contact us. A list of breed societies currently registered with us can be found here.

EXTRA Genetic tests

We can now accept requests for EXTRA genetic tests on samples sent to us within the past 6 months. We may be able to perform EXTRA genetic tests on samples sent 6 to 24 months ago, but we cannot guarantee this will be possible.
Prices for EXTRA genetic tests can be found here and payment can be made online.

Please contact us with the cat's name, Lab Number, date of original sample submission and EXTRA genetic test(s) required.

Please note - samples are occasionally used for research and development purposes and may not be available for EXTRA genetic testing.

Genetic tests schedule

All Genetic tests are run on a weekly basis. Results are sent by email or post 7 to 10 working days after we receive your samples. These times can be subject to change (e.g. for Bank holidays).

Please note: Due to client feedback we now email certificates in PDF format.
This means that you receive your results as soon as possible and you can save the certificates on your computer. Certificates can be opened with Adobe Reader and printed if required.

Submissions from EU countries, Norway and Switzerland

If you are submitting mouth swabs for genetic testing and live outside the UK please do the following:

  1. Download and print the DEFRA import licence.
  2. Download, print and complete the Declaration.
  3. Attach both the DEFRA import licence and signed Declaration to the outside of the package containing your swabs.
