Our Facilities

The Small Animal Referral Hospital at Langford offers referral services across a range of disciplines. We aim to provide an efficient and friendly service for referring veterinary surgeons and their clients led by RCVS and European Diplomates

Examining orthopaedic x-ray

We are currently in the process of building a new surgical complex with state of the art facilities, to include 5 modern theatres, imaging facilities including CT and a new purpose designed Intensive Care unit. This facility will be operational in the autumn of 2011

Our current facilities provide a dedicated multidisciplinary platform to complement the broad range of referral services we already offer.

Feline Centre:

We offer the only dedicated feline service in the region, headed by our RCVS Recognised Feline Specialist. With our separate feline waiting room, consulting and treatment areas, you can reassure your clients that their cats will not be put under more stress. Feline Specialities include: Radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroid cats, endocrine disorders, hypertension and renal disease, gastroenterology and hepatology, lower urinary tract disease, cardiorespiratory disorders, infectious diseases and haematological diseases (including cats requiring blood transfusions).

Emergency medicine and Intensive Care Unit:

The ICU is led by a European Veterinary Specialist in Internal Medicine, and is assisted by two dedicated ICU nurses, residents and interns who provide 24 hour dedicated patient care.

MRI:

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is performed by our 1.5 Tesla machine, ensuring very detailed and clear images in even the smallest animal. Our radiologists provide the clinician with an expert report within minutes, thereby ensuring that the appropriate therapeutic procedure can be performed without delay.

Diagnostic Imaging:

Comprehensive and effective diagnostic imaging is vital to any investigation. Our team of RCVS and European Specilaists, radiographers and nurses work together to ensure optimal diagnostic imaging. All staff are experienced in animal handling to ensure the best possible support during procedures. We offer:

  1. a film reading service
  2. outpatient clinics for ultrasound examination
  3. outpatient MRI

Scintigraphy:

Scintigraphy is a form of imaging that uses short-lived radioactive substances to localise abnormal or ‘over-active’ areas of tissue. Although it is mainly used in horses to localise lameness, it has many other applications including investigation of unexplained lameness in dogs and hyperthyroidism in cats.

Diagnostic Laboratory:

Our diagnostic laboratory is on site and offers a fast and reliable service to our clinicians in the spirit of the multidisciplinary approach. We also offer an efficient and friendly service for referring veterinary surgeons through a wide range of laboratory tests.

Hydrotherapy:

Many patients require long term care and rehabilitation following surgical or medical problems. Our hydrotherapy services are provided as both inpatient and outpatient services to help:

  1. maintain mobility
  2. promote healing of muscular and skeletal conditions
  3. reduce obesity through regular exercise
